Transport Issues

The Society has sought to address various transport issues affecting Farnborough.

A major concern for many residents has been the removal of the bus stop immediately outside Frimley Park hospital. This has led to bus-using patients and visitors from Farnborough having a lengthy uphill walk to the hospital’s main entrance.

We understand removal of the bus stop was instigated by Surrey Heath Council and we are currently in dialogue with them.

Having made contact with “Stagecoach”, who operate bus services from Farnborough to and from the hospital, we are pleased to report that, although this has not been widely publicised, from May 12th the #2 service will be stopping in the grounds of the hospital. We are now looking into the possibility of the more convenient #1 service also being timetabled to stop in the hospital grounds.

We have raised the issue of public transport between the Rafborough Estate (Keith Lucas Road, Cody Road, Weir Avenue, Fowler Road etc.) and the Town Centre. At present there is none, and “Stagecoach” are concerned it may not be commercially viable and that to provide such a service would require Council subsidies.

This is a matter over which we really need residents’ views. If you live in the Rafborough area, please bombard us with emails so we may ascertain the needs for transport and if necessary present a viable case to the local council and transport operators.
